What’s Next?

This page is dedicated to What’s Next.

In other words, what happens after you buy a domain name? What happens when you have control over a domain? That depends on what you want to do with it.

I already have a website hosted. How do I point the domain to it?

Here are step by step instructions. If you are a pro, sorry, but these directions are written for a newbie.

  1. Login to Epik.
  2. Click on My Domains to get a listing of the domains that are in your account.
  3. Click on the 3 horizontal lines next to domain name that you want to change. (Technically, this is called a hamburger menu icon.)
  4. Click on Set Name Servers (the right side of the box)
  5. You will need to 2 nameservers listed by your website host. Typically this is ns1.mywebhost.com, ns2.mywebhost.com (where mywebhost.com changes top whatever your host provides)
  6. Fill in the two nameservers from your website host.
  7. Click Save Changes
  8. That’s it! The change usually happens quickly, but it can take hours to fully update.

I do not have a website host yet.

We use Siteground and love them. We have had no issues with them and are currently using their GoGeek plan. Our affiliate link is here:

I want to transfer the domain out of Epik to another registrar.

Below are the basic steps for transferring the domain out to other registrars. These steps may not be 100% correct for every registrar, but we try to give the best instructions. Please let us know if these are wrong for a particular registrar.

  1. Obtain the EPP code from Epik. This is a transfer authorization code that you will need to initiate the transfer.
    1. Login to Epik.
    2. Click on My Domains to get a listing of the domains that are in your account.
    3. Click on the 3 horizontal lines next to domain name that you want to change. (Technically, this is called a hamburger menu icon.)
    4. Click on Transfers.
    5. Click on Transfer Domain To Different Registrar.
    6. Follow the steps on Epik to transfer. It will run some confirmation checks and give you the authorization code needed for transferring the domain.
  2. Go to your target registrar and begin the transfer. The process may change depending on the registrar. Basically, on the target registrar’s website, you click on transfer a domain, give them the domain name, and the EPP authorization code. Sometimes they will wait until after paying for the transfer authorization code.
  3. The domain will transfer about 5 days later.

Please note that the receiving registrar (your target registrar) charges to transfer a domain. In return, you also get 1 year of registration added to the domain when you transfer it. We do not cover the transfer costs for any domain. You will need to cover those fees.
